It’s happened to all of us. We get into a pattern of waking and sleeping that has us opening our eyes in the middle of the night. Waking up at the same time every night without an alarm clock might be a sign that you need to pay attention to.
If you have been waking at the same times consistently, it could mean that the some of your energy is getting blocked or misdirected. This disrupts our natural balance and cycle.Your organs need the energy to heal and operate. Waking between 3 am and 5 am every night is a sign that energies in that corresponding part of your body are blocked or weak.
9 pm – 11 pm
This is an average time that most people try to fall asleep. This is the time that our endocrine system rebalances and enzymes are replenished. The endocrine system manages hormones and metabolism. If you have trouble falling asleep at this time, you could be stuck in a flight or fight mode. If you are eating poorly or too late in the day, this can cause blockages as well.
11pm – 1am
Your gall bladder produces bile, which is needed for digestion and absorption. But if you’re waking up during this time, it may mean that you’ll want to skip those extra spicy dishes next time. Your gall bladder will thank you.
1 am – 3 am
This is the energy meridian associated with the Chinese medicine body clock and the liver. Waking up at this time is associated with the emotions of anger and excess yang energy. Try drinking cool water and taking ownership of the situation that caused you to feel angry in order to rest peacefully through the night.
This is when the meridian that services the lungs is strongest. Of course, we are always breathing but during these hours the lungs are given a boost of energy and are replenished for the day ahead. In order to breathe the body has to be relaxed, so waking up during this time could indicate a blockage or inability to go with the flow and relax into the direction that life is taking you. The lungs also symbolize where we process grief and sadness, so if you have been feeling emotional you may also wake around this time.
5 am – 7 am
Any toxins released and broken down earlier in the night are getting cleared out of the system. The large intestine is active during this time. Eating a poor diet or too late can lead to problems that will wake you at this time.
